Gravity Die Casting - structural integrity, superior surface finish.

/ THE PROCESS

The process of choice for structurally sound, safety-relevant parts.

Gravity die casting (GDC) uses the natural force of gravity to fill a permanent metal die with molten aluminium - producing components with excellent mechanical properties, good surface finish and reliable dimensional consistency. It's the process of choice for medium-volume production of structurally sound, safety-relevant aluminium parts.

Alucast has operated gravity die casting since the early 1970s - one of our original capability expansions beyond sand casting. Decades of process knowledge mean we know exactly where this method excels, and when to recommend an alternative.

/ WHEN TO CHOOSE GDC
  • 01Medium production volumes (lower than HPDC but higher than sand casting)
  • 02Components requiring high structural integrity and good mechanical properties
  • 03Applications where porosity must be minimised - aerospace, hydraulic, structural
  • 04Parts with thicker wall sections unsuitable for high pressure processes
