/ CASTING - LPDC · 03

Low Pressure Die Casting - superior properties for complex, high-integrity parts.

/ THE PROCESS

The critical space between gravity die and high pressure.

Die tooling mounted in a low pressure die casting machine

Low pressure die casting (LPDC) fills the die from below using controlled low-pressure gas - rather than injecting under high pressure or relying on gravity. The controlled, turbulence-free fill produces components with excellent mechanical properties, reduced porosity and superior structural integrity compared to gravity die casting.

LPDC occupies a critical space between gravity die casting and HPDC - ideal for components that demand strength and integrity but have geometries or volumes that don't suit high-pressure processes.

/ WHEN TO CHOOSE LPDC
  • 01Components requiring superior mechanical properties - high-stress, structural or safety-critical applications
  • 02Complex shapes with uniform wall sections where porosity must be minimised
  • 03Automotive wheel and suspension components, hydraulic housings, aerospace structural parts
  • 04Medium volume production where casting quality cannot be compromised

/ ALUCAST LPDC CAPABILITY

Dedicated LPDC Machine

Added as part of our 2024 investment programme.

Controlled Fill & Solidification

For consistent mechanical properties across the component.

Integrated CNC Machining

In-house machining for finished component supply.

Magmasoft Simulation

Available for LPDC die design and fill optimisation.

Full NDT & Verification

NDT and dimensional verification capability.

As one of only a small number of UK foundries to operate LPDC alongside HPDC, gravity die and sand casting, Alucast can genuinely advise on the right process - rather than pushing every enquiry towards the process it's most familiar with.
